Stop Being Obsessed

Stop obsessing over diet, food and fitness
It’s easy to go from having an understanding of how things work with diet and exercise, of improving your life one step at a time and achieving a better balance … to someone that is obsessed with every little thing they put in their mouth to overanalyzing what they eat and how they eat it.

Turning from healthy and happy and balanced to obsessed is also not a good thing.

We can easily take our watching what we are eating, our diet, our exercise regime to an extreme. They can easily become an obsession and cause us to start nitpicking details that don’t matter as much as we think they do.

We can in turn take those details and start to magnify their importance .. thinking that mastering them will help us do more and be more.
Stressing the small stuff and trying to own the entire plan and the entire mapped out action sheet can turn completely into an obsession and a mess of details that can start and end with things such as
  • Eat at exactly this time
  • Do exactly these many sets
  • Don’t eat more than these many carbs
  • Make sure you drink this much water
  • Is my cheat meal cheaty enough

When we start to nit pick and focus on all the little details, we can quite easily lose sight of all the bigger details and the big picture.  We can easily make our systems over complicated

We often struggle to see the big picture, or the forest through the trees and instead we micromanage the process.

You absolutely do not have to master or obsess over the little things. When you focus on your health and wellness and your approach to a balanced lifestyle start with small steps.

First, start by eating real food and eat when you want.  Lift weights and train hard. Sleep, as much as you can so you feel rested and recharged.  Drink water and plenty of other fluids and limit the added sugars.

And then, in time when it is necessary, pay attention to the details.

Your health and your life is about enjoyment. Developing healthy lifestyle habits should not be a burden.  It should involve some control but without sacrifice.  It should empower you and not hinder you.  It should give you an ability to act without becoming obsessed.

While I’m in this awesome quest to do more and be the best version of me, through the mentorship with Teresa Bragado, I am also looking at the big picture, how this journey is just the beginning and there is so much more out there to learn, to do and to see and I look forward to sharing all of those amazing journeys with you so you too can learn and take action to a healthier, balanced lifestyle one step at a time.
