Communicate!

Focus on Safety & Wellness

Snow Snow Snow! Teresa and I battled the snow this morning and ended up at the gym with almost no one there! We both made it safe and sound!

So … today I want to talk about communication. When you are working with a partner or when you are training with a trainer it is really important you talk to them about how you are feeling in order to get the most out of your workout.

My knees are slightly aching this morning and my legs are not 100% recovered from our last workout where I truly out performed myself on every exercise.

I was very up front and honest with Teresa, telling her how I felt and how my body was.  She created a brand new workout today, changed up how we did the exercises, focused on a lot of body weight workout and exercises and also used high weights on different exercises we normally do not adopt as part of our workout on leg day.

For any exercise that bothered my knee, we reduced the weight dramatically and focused on lifting and holding or on top / bottom leg pumps.

At the end of the workout, I still felt great. I felt like I was tired and spent and strong.

The moral I want you to take away? Please talk to your trainer or your workout partner. You need to communicate with one another to stay safe, to make sure you are not over taxing your joints, your tendons and your muscles. You need to allow your body to heal and while you do not necessarily need to scrap a workout on a specific body part, you may need to vary your exercises to not cause injury.

Check your ego at the door (I sometimes think I’m superwoman (as this was pointed out to me yesterday morning) and take a few steps back and just make the most out of every workout by staying safe, communicating and alternating your workout strategy.

Teresa listens, she acts and reacts and today I saw someone that did not want to play around with any aches or pains. She created and developed our workout strategy to keep me safe so that I could continue to make progress in the ensuing weeks.Have an awesome day! see you tomorrow again!
