I Want it NOW

I want it Now! Patient or Impatient? - which will you choose?

2 weeks … 2 weeks — I want it now! more! now! … faster!  I want to see more! … why is it taking so long for that lil muscle to show up?

Sound familiar?

We all can fall in that trap — the “I want more now” mental trap.

Reality? It takes time and hard work. Building a better body, or achieving better health just doesn’t happen overnight. There is no magic pill or potion that will give you immediate anything so stop looking.

I’ve been doing my 18 weeks prep with T for 2 weeks (this marks the end of my second week).

Here’s the reality of my first 2 weeks

  • The scale flops up and down continually – up 5 pounds, down 7 … up 9 … down 10 … As of this morning I’m up 5
  • My strength has increased dramatically. I have almost doubled strength wise in 2 weeks
  • I’m sore, E-V-E-R-Y D-A-Y
  • I’m getting impatient with the scale (I am at a very healthy weight and yet i have become ridiculously annoyed at my weight fluctuations)
  • I want to see more each day (ergo … i’m getting impatient again)
  • I am double thinking my eating strategy (directly related to what I see on the scale)
  • I walked in this morning to the gym annoyed because of what I saw on the scale before I started out this morning and started rethinking what I was doing
  • I’m seeing more muscle and lines across my body and my clothing is fitting better (but that damn scale has my mood aggravated)

Sound like you?

Yeah .. I go through it too.

I’m no different than anyone else. You may trust in the process and just know its hard as all heck.  This is true in life and in business. The mental toughness it takes to stay the course is hard. The mental toughness it takes to rely on the and trust in the process can be frustrating at times when you see things that just look contrary to what you really believe in your head should be happening.

Soo … how did I push myself out of that at 4AM? the lets kick rocks today, feeling?

It wasn’t easy at the beginning … Teresa makes it easy because she truly doesn’t let me think (or chit chat!) much when we work out. She also doesn’t let me get in my head (get a coach! I can’t say this enough! If you are in business for yourself or trying to do something awesome like this for yourself personally, get a coach! they make a difference! They don’t just train for skill! they train for mindset! Believe me when I tell you, it matters!!! )

So my sucky arse attitude started to turn around … and then .. my day brightened when …

  • I shoulder pressed two 25 pound plates — on a big ol bar at that! hello! strength!
  • I shoulder pressed a 45 pound olympic bar AFTER burning out my shoulders with the 25 pound plates.
  • I burnt through a tricep workout a week ago I would not have nearly been able to get through half
  • I was dropsetting several plates starting with a 45 as I proceeded through my shoulder workout
  • I snuck into the back and talked to Lexia (the Vegan Muscle queen!) about what I was feeling and she gave me ten reasons why I shouldn’t worry and why my body was in shock and how over the course of the 18 weeks I’m going to have big swings and that the scale is only one small thing. She was kind, caring and gave great advice plus told me some of the changes she saw in me …

Then when the coach realized I had not done my set, she got ticked off (Teresa would so use another word) and kicked my rear for the remaining workout (and yes, that made me laugh )

Moral?

  • You can’t be up up up all the time
  • You will question yourself — GET A COACH! and get a GREAT SUPPORT SYSTEM! that will see you through their eyes. You need a mirror that isn’t yours sometimes!
  • You will want to wallow – GET A COACH who won’t let you!
  • You will question the process – GET A COACH!

Without the support, the amazing coach and getting kicked in the butt each day, I might be tempted to back off and not go hard hard hard.  Having these people in your corner is immeasurable.  In business and life — have people in your corner that are there for you!

Til tomorrow … when I know its legs day and i’m going to pay for the wallow!

PPS : I don’t ever want to minimize the process, the time it takes, the energy and mental acuity doing things that are awesome requires. I share my experience as real and as raw as I can.  It is important to show the ups as well as the downs because I believe in all things real and I not only hope to inspire someone to be all they can be, but also encourage you to push through the pain, because we all go through it!
